GLASS DOME OPENING – December 2025.
The dome crowning the circular rotunda at the prominent street-facing corner of the Madlena Art Palace is the creation of architect Zoran Aleksić, with collaborator designer Strahinja Pakaški. The lighting design was crafted by Miroslav Mirković.
This dome was honored with a special award for conceptual design at the ArtZept competition. Its inspiration stems from the fullerene molecule—a key element featured in Zepter Hyperlight optics eyewear products.
Rising approximately five meters high and spanning about eight meters in diameter at its widest point, the dome is constructed from aluminum coated in an elegant old gold finish. It comprises roughly 180 spheres, each 15 centimeters in diameter, serving as connecting nodes. These are linked by over 450 rods, each about a meter long, forming dominant pentagonal and hexagonal shapes as primary structural elements, complemented by triangular sections as secondary components. Every element is custom-made and varies in size.
Asymmetrical in design, the dome is partially glazed with triangular, bronze-colored glass panels treated with Stopsol and Parsol finishes. This glazing approach and glass selection create a dynamic play of light, making the dome appear strikingly different at dawn compared to sunset. Furthermore, the interplay of building and surrounding colors adds an enchanting visual experience for observers.
The lighting system is thoughtfully designed to accommodate a wide range of effects. Its varied color and intensity settings enable scenes that range from subtle, gently flickering glows to vibrant, celebratory stage-like displays.
